"The Brain Is Wider Than the Sky..."

 ~Emily Dickinson`

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) is recognized as one of the most important American poets of the 19th century.  Her poems were unique for her time, with short lines, unconventional punctuation, and they typically had no titles.  Emily lived as a recluse most of her life and her works were largely unpublished until after her death.  In honor of this great American poet, I’ve taken the libery of using segments of her poems as titles for the paintings in this series.

COMPLETE UNTITLED POEM

The brain is wider than the sky,

For, put them side by side,

The one the other will include

  With ease, and you beside.

The brain is deeper than the sea,

For, hold them, blue to blue,

The one the other will absorb,

  As sponges, buckets do.

The brain is just the weight of God,

For, lift them, pound for pound,

And they will differ, if they do,

   As syllable from sound.
